A new supply source for the Adriatic LNG terminal
The first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from Angola has been successfully discharged at the Adriatic LNG terminal. Delivering a cargo of about 152,000 cubic meters of LNG, equivalent to about 92 million cubic meters of gas, the Lobito arrived at the terminal off the Veneto coast in the morning of November 4th, after 13 days of navigation.
Since the end of 2009, 629 LNG carriers moored and over 53 billion cubic meters of gas were delivered into the national grid thanks to Adriatic LNG, whose terminal plays an important role as a national entry point of natural gas, a reliable source necessary for the energy transition to a low carbon future.
By receiving cargoes from a new producing Country, the eighth after Qatar, Egypt, Trinidad&Tobago, Equatorial Guinea, Norway, Nigeria and the United States, Adriatic LNG regasification terminal confirms its central role for the Italian gas supply system. Through the diversification of import sources, Adriatic LNG contributes to strengthen national energy security, by increasing its flexibility and favoring gas market competitiveness.
